New Orleans BBQ Shrimp
This New Orleans BBQ Shrimp recipe is a spicy, buttery dish bursting with bold Creole flavors. Despite the name, it’s not barbecued but simmered in a rich, flavorful sauce. Perfect for sopping up with crusty French bread, this iconic dish brings the taste of the Big Easy to your table.
Ingredients
For the Shrimp:
1 1/2 lbs large shrimp, shell-on and deveined
1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
2 tbsp olive oil
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
Juice of 1 lemon
3 or 4 slices of a lemon
1 1/2 tbsp Louisiana hot sauce
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 1/2 tbsp fresh rosemary, finely chopped
1 1/2 tbsp Creole seasoning
1/2 cup beer
1 tbsp black pepper
2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
For Serving:
Crusty French bread or baguette
Instructions
1. Prepare the Shrimp:
Rinse shrimp under cold water and pat dry. Set aside.
2. Make the Sauce:
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil.
Add garlic and rosemary and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
Stir in Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, hot sauce. Add sliced lemons.
Add the beer and Creole seasoning.
3. Simmer the Shrimp:
Add shrimp to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until pink and cooked through. Add cubes of butter 3 cubes at a time until incorporated. Add half of the black pepper.
Continue to move the shrimp around while cooking and adding the butter. Add the rest of the black pepper.
Simmer for 2-3 more minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
4. Garnish and Serve:
Sprinkle parsley over the shrimp.
Serve hot with crusty French bread for dipping into the sauce.
