Asian Crispy Beef Recipe
Servings: 4 | Prep Time: 15 min | Cook Time: 10 min
Ingredients:
For the Beef:
1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 cup neutral oil (like vegetable or peanut oil)
For the Sauce:
2 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp hoisin sauce
1 tbsp honey or brown sugar
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tsp sesame oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1-inch ginger, grated
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
1 tbsp water
1 tsp cornstarch (for thickening)
Garnishes (Optional):
2 green onions, thinly sliced
1 tsp sesame seeds
1 red chili, thinly sliced (for extra heat)
Instructions:
1. Prep the Beef:
Slice the beef thinly against the grain for tenderness.
In a bowl, toss beef with cornstarch, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Let it sit for 5 minutes while you prepare the sauce.
2. Make the Sauce:
In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes.
In a separate small bowl, mix 1 tbsp water with 1 tsp cornstarch to create a slurry.
3. Fry the Beef:
Heat oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat.
Shake off excess cornstarch from beef slices and fry in a single layer (in batches if necessary) for 2-3 minutes per side until crispy.
Remove beef from the pan and drain on a paper towel.
4. Combine & Toss:
Remove excess oil, leaving about 1 tbsp in the pan.
Pour in the sauce and bring to a simmer. Add the cornstarch slurry and stir until thickened.
Toss the crispy beef back into the sauce, coating evenly.
5. Serve & Garnish:
Plate the crispy beef over rice or in lettuce wraps.
Sprinkle with green onions, sesame seeds, and red chili if desired.
